Atemoya
This annona hybrid is well adapted to the warm climate of Costa Rica. We graft two excellent varieties called Rosada and Priestly. more about this fruit...
The atemoya is a hybrid of the cherimoya (A. cherimola) and the sugar apple (A. squamosa). This particular variety has mixed a cherimoya with a dark purple sugar apple resulting in a light pink color. The fruits are heart shaped, are covered in ridges and can reach the size of a grapefruit weighing over a kilo. The fruit has pink skin, white pulp with small, smooth, black almond shaped seeds and a delicious creamy flesh that tastes like vanilla ice cream. The trees can reach between 8 and 10 meters tall and do best in tropical climates up to 800 meters above sea level. |
