In Cantonese Longan means dragon eye. Grafted trees typically fruit within 2-3 years and mature tree production averages 250 kg a year. The yellow fruits are small and round with leathery skin and a soft flesh surrounding a round black seed. The flavor of the fruit is sweet and musky with hints of cinnamon. Trees grow to between 9-12 meters tall and do best in subtropical climates up to 1,500 meters above sea level. |
