A leguminous tree originally from the tropical region of Sudan in eastern Africa. The fruit generally grows in bunches and is a tan colored pod with a reddish brown, sticky, taffy like pulp surrounding small flat black seeds. The flavor is sweet and sour and reminiscent of brown sugar. The tree can reach 12-18 meters tall, is fond of acidic coastal soil and is happiest in a dry tropical climate below 800 meters asl. |
